Brazilian Ebony, Swartzia tomentosa, is a hard and heavy wood with a straight grain. It gets the name ebony for its (nearly) black color, but a distinct grain pattern is still easily seen with the naked eye. It typically has a bright yellow-orange color when first cut but after oxidation takes on a darker appearance.
